Mamata Banerjee Launches Fiery Campaign Against CAA, BJP Tactics in West Bengal

top-news

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee kicked off her Lok Sabha election campaign from Krishnanagar constituency with a passionate warning against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA. She cautioned people against applying under the CAA, emphasizing that it would label them as foreigners and advising against falling for the false assurances of the central government.

In a scathing attack on the BJP, Banerjee branded them as a “jumla party,” accusing them of spreading falsehoods about the CAA. She dismissed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guarantee on the CAA as having zero credibility, highlighting the dangers of its implementation along with the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Expressing skepticism over the composition of the CAA committee, Banerjee questioned the inclusion of a member from the census department if there are no plans for NRC in the future. She pointed out the irony of BJP leaders not applying for citizenship under the CAA, suggesting that they would be deemed foreigners and unable to contest elections.

Banerjee also addressed the tragic case of a young person taking their own life in Sonarpur due to concerns about the CAA. Her outreach extended to the Matua community, assuring them that she would protect their citizenship and prevent anyone from snatching it away.

The Matuas, a vulnerable Hindu community with origins in East Pakistan, have become a pivotal voting group in West Bengal. Banerjee’s message resonated with their concerns, promising to safeguard their rights amidst the political rhetoric surrounding the CAA.

Amidst her strong stance against the CAA, Banerjee also criticized the BJP-led government for allegedly using central agencies against TMC leaders. She condemned the frequent visits of CBI, ED, and Income Tax teams to the homes of her party’s leaders, questioning the BJP’s motives.

Banerjee’s campaign launch was marked by fervor and determination, setting the stage for a heated electoral battle in West Bengal, where contentious issues like the CAA and BJP’s tactics are likely to dominate the discourse.
