As the countdown to the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 begins, the Congress Central Election Committee (CEC) convened on Monday to finalize candidates for crucial parliamentary constituencies across several states. In a significant move, the CEC cleared names for 12 Lok Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh, marking a pivotal step in the party's electoral strategy.

Sources revealed that Nakul Nath, the son of former Chief Minister Kamal Nath, will contest from the Chhindwara seat, highlighting the party's commitment to fielding prominent leaders with strong electoral pedigrees.

Led by party national president Mallikarjun Kharge and attended by Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, the CEC meeting underscored the meticulous planning and deliberation invested in candidate selection. Notably, Rahul Gandhi, although present in Delhi, did not attend the meeting.

The meeting also addressed candidacies for Rajasthan, with Ashok Gehlot's son Vaibhav slated to contest from Jalore. Speculations abound regarding the electoral participation of Gehlot and Sachin Pilot, who are unlikely to contest this time.

Across various states, discussions centered on finalizing candidates for Lok Sabha constituencies, reflecting the party's comprehensive approach to electoral preparedness. Notable candidates include Rahul Kaswan, who recently defected from the BJP to join Congress and is set to contest from Churu in Rajasthan, alongside Vaibhav Gehlot and Harish Meena.

The CEC's deliberations encompassed parliamentary seats from Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, and Madhya Pradesh, underscoring the party's nationwide electoral strategy.

This comes in the wake of the party's earlier announcement of candidates for 39 Lok Sabha constituencies, covering states such as Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshwadeep, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Telangana, and Tripura. The first list of candidates featured prominent leaders like former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal, and seasoned parliamentarian Shashi Tharoor, reflecting the party's diverse and dynamic candidate pool.

With the electoral battlefield taking shape, the Congress's strategic candidate selection underscores its commitment to offering formidable contenders capable of representing the aspirations of diverse constituencies across the country. As the election narrative unfolds, the party's focus on grassroots leadership and seasoned campaigners sets the stage for an electrifying electoral contest in the impending Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
